.Male turkeys (toms,gobblers)
usually have 8-10 inches of wattles (chronicles)below thier head.When displaying for the hen blood rushes to the face turning it to have a red neck a white knot on top of the head.They have white feathers that easily fall of off their wings,this is ussually how you locate the roost.The size usually depend on what sub species they are they run from 15-30 lbs..When you see a group of gobblers they are called a gang (this is for jakes boss gobblers become solitary often you might see him with other gobblers .Late Febuary you might here a couple gobblong if the weather gos with the flow ..If it turns cold the gobbling might taper off sometimes the turkeys dont taper off the gobbling if it gets too cold ..In mid March you will here a gobble regularly.. Late march the turkey's become very active and you will probably here gobbling often in the mornings and late mornings.In the spring the toms dont eat hardly at all they are moslt chasing hens around.Early April -mid may(may differ in your kneck of the woods) there will be strut zones you will see him just strutting around in the 8 pattern if your out on the hunt and you see that this may be the time to call ...The tom is most likely alone and is wanting attention . Males are ussualy full grown at 1 yr but ...they do not mature till 3 years of age ..So if you see a lonely gobbler he will be easier to call and will come in
