Be sure to study the birds,a few weeks before season opens so that you know
where they will be and when they will be thier. This will give you
a better chance to bag your gobbler.Find out where they are
roosting,(Look for Big trees with low underbrush below them, that
are on the edges of fields, and look for feathers around bottom of the tree.)
Find out where they are feeding and find some strut zones that
the gobblers like to hang around.Scout day to night, finding out
where the birds go and where they hang.Scouting is the First part
to bagging your bird. This will Prepare you for turkey season.

When it comes to locating a gobbler, purchase a owl hooter,or a crow call,
this will locate the gobbler fairy well ocasionally.Sometimes any loud noise
will make a Tom "Shock Gobble"..You can do a few short seiries of quiet
yelps on your call, and if no response yelp louder in volumne and more
aggressively.Sometimes the turkeys just wont gobble,If you know thier
are turkeys in the area just stick around, patience plays a major facter
in wild turkey hunting.
If you've located a gobbler try to get close to the bird, but not too close, turkeys
have very good eye sight, and hearing however their scense of smell is not so great.
I suggest within 150 yds of the bird,or closer.
Ok your close to the gobbler now,hes gobbling you know he's still thier. Find a tree that is wider than your shoulders, and set and lean your back against it.This way you are well hid.Be very still turkeys have very great eyes.Get set with your gun on your knee, and make sure your comfortable because you may have to set still in that position for a long while. Let the bird know that thier is a hen present by yelping or clucking quiety,if the gobbler is alone he should be interesting in the call. (he will probably be alone right when he flys off the roost alittle before daylight, and around noon)If he is "Henned up" meaning he is with hens,it may be a difficult situation to call him in. If he is "Henned up" Try to get the hens talking, and Call the hens. This means if the hens yelp, yelp back at them, but try to imitate every sound that that ole hen is making,if she does 5 yelps then a few clucks, you come right back at her with 5 yelps and a few clucks, this frequently will anger the hen and she will come in looking for a scuffle, and most likely she will drag that stubborn old gobbler with her.Dont overcall, meaning try not to call more than the hens in the area are calling, but more often times you have to call more than the hens are to get a gobblers attention. If the Gobbler is already coming to your call, and knows where you are at,its best to call sparingly and quietly,if hes within sight, and if you are calling too much it will just give him a better chance to pinpoint exactly where you the hunter is,and youve lost your bird. Decoys can be used to keep the gobblers eyes off you and on the decoy.Turkeys prefer visual over audible. This means its better for them to see and hear what they are after than it is for them to just hear it.Your setting thier and the Gobbler is in full strut around 35-40 yds away, and hes in range to be shot.Stop the calling, and wait for him to move behind a bush, tree, terrace, etc.or for him to be in full strut and turn around so that his face is hidden by his Tail feathers so that you can get your gun in position to shoot.Hold still, use a mouth call so that hardly any movement is required, and let a loud "PUTT", The bird should raise his head up straight, and look for what is around.Shoot immeadietly after you putt,if his head is up.So that The bird doesnt see you and run off before you have a chance to shoot.
Getting your bird out of the woods, cover you bird when your escorting your trophy out of the woods,You dont want someone to think your a turkey. Its very dangerous.Be sure to check your bird in to your local hunter check station. And clean him up.and put him on the dinner plate.
